We are a Mazda Miata enthusiast club based in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina, which includes Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point and surrounding areas. GREENSBORO — Fred D. Alley Jr., 61, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009.

A Celebration of this Life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 10 a.m. at The Summit Church in Kernersville, NC with Rev. Jonathan Robbins officiating.

Fred was born on August 9, 1948 in Nashville, Tenn., the son of Fred D. Alley Sr. and Edith and Leo Scarberry. He moved with his family to the Greensboro area when he was two years old. He served proudly in Vietnam with the US Marine Corp. Fred retired from the Greensboro Police Department after 30 years of service. He coached the Greensboro Police Dept. Basketball Team for many years and led them to many successful seasons. He was a member of the Triad Miata Club and founder of "Miatas at Myrtle Beach." He enjoyed playing golf and loved animals. Fred was a loving husband, father, Paw-paw, and friend to many.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Maureen Fickling Alley; daughter, Angela Byrd and husband Michael of Kernersville; son, Andrew Alley and wife Kim of Burlington; daughter, Becky Wrisley and husband Scott of Kernersville; grandchildren, Hayden and Gavyn Byrd and Thomas and Edith Wrisley; and his beloved dogs Priscilla D and Beau.

Memorials may be made to the Guilford County Animal Shelter, 4525 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, NC 27409.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church on Saturday, November 7th..
